This is, hands down, the best death in the movie. The theatrical version didn’t show her being impaled, or her torso as the pole was pulled up through it, so I was quite excited when the unrated version was released. I did, however, notice something after repeated viewing and a slow-motion playthrough: Her prosthetic body double was pre-cut. Knowing that doesn’t diminish the effect even years later, or the scene’s entertainment value, but it was comically fascinating to learn.

This movie should’ve been called Jason Takes a Boat En Route to Manhattan because 3/4 of the movie takes place on a boat… en route… to Manhattan. I remember seeing the trailer the first time and thinking, “Ooh, asphyxiated socialites!” That’s what I was hoping for, anyway… alas, such was not to be. Thankfully, this scene made up for an otherwise shattered dream of Jason snuffing out New York’s rich and beautiful.

I don’t know about you, but when I’m watching a movie in which someone’s about to get killed, I often scan the setting for anything the director might’ve decided to use to kill the character with, all the while getting my hopes up for an asphyxia-related death. When Jason grabbed Kelly’s throat, all I could think was, “Lift her up! Please lift her up!” as if trying to will how the scene played out. Sure enough, up she went, right up against the ceiling. The scene proved to be one of the best I’d seen in the entire franchise. Her performance was spot on. Once she’s dead, Jason just tosses her corpse onto the floor. I once read that was her getting tossed for real.

Juliette Cummins… My God what a gorgeous redhead… Hers was the only decent death in the movie. When the Jason knock-off grabbed her neck from the bottom bunk, I seriously hoped he would strangle her to death. Then, he rammed his machete up through her and I thought, “Ok, that works, too.” And fuck me did she sell it with a hella good performance.
Sadly, we didn’t get a wide shot of the blade coming up through her chest. I once read they couldn’t get the effect to look good so we only got a close-up of her reaction.

Nudity – Topless after removing her robe while she’s getting ready for bed, followed by a brief glimpse of her breasts when the fake Jason grabs her throat, and then a partial nipple when she dies.

Edits
I removed the cut to the boyfriend’s death while she’s showering. The shot of his corpse later in this scene, when she looks up from the hammock, has always been a buzz-kill for me, so I removed it as well. All we’re left with is Tracie’s terrific performance.
The scene abruptly cuts elsewhere in the movie after Jason’s machete pierce’s her sternum, so I grabbed a copy of the last frame and added it to the end of the clip to extended it a few seconds.
Friday the 13th Part 2
Description
Marta Kober is turned into a shish kabob during post-coitus cuddling. Sadly, the MPAA had the wide shot of Marta’s reaction removed from the final cut but it’s always been prominently displayed on the back of the media covers.
Edits
In October 2020, Shout Factory released a 10-disc Blu-ray collection of the Friday the 13th franchise, including uncut gore from Part 2 which features Sandra and Jeff’s impaling from a vintage VHS copy the makeup artist had made for posterity after filming. For years, the footage from that scene was reported as being lost forever, but Shout Factory found it thanks to their collaboration with the artist. The collection cost me $130 and was worth every penny. The recovered footage has no audio.
I went through several revisions of this edit, trying to incorporate the uncut with the theatrical footage, until I came up with a version that I feel best compliments the theatrical cut while maintaining consistency with how it unfolds.
As visually satisfying as it was finally seeing, for the first time ever, a wide shot of the spear actually penetrate Jeff’s prosthetic body and Marta’s exquisite performance in reacting to being impaled, the uncut footage simply doesn’t match well with the theatrical cut in terms of pacing. Additionally, I was unable to mix the sound of their gasps from the theatrical cut with the uncut footage in a way that didn’t detract from the rest of the scene. What I found myself left with is a version of the scene that lets us see Sandra’s final death throe after the spear hits the floor, which apparently is all I’ve ever really wanted to cap off the scene. In the end, I discovered less is more. My imagination has always filled in what we never saw until now.
Thankfully, the music in the theatrical cut keeps playing for several seconds while the movie transitions to the next scene. I was able to mix that in with the uncut footage so we get the entire scene with the final shot of Sandra instead of the spear head and the music to accompany it, and the whole thing sounds properly mixed.
I edited two versions of the scene: A theatrical cut, and an extended version that includes a brief portion of the uncut footage. For your convenience, further viewing pleasure, and the sake of completion, the recovered uncut footage is also available in its entirety. Again, please note the recovered footage has no sound.
